Funny squishies get their laugh in one of three ways. Some are gross: a poop squishy, an egg that throws up its yolk, a frog that sticks its tongue out. Some startle, with eyes or a bubble that shoots out when you squeeze. The rest just look goofy. Which kind makes a good gag gift depends on who opens it and where, because the poop that wins a family swap can fall flat on someone’s first week at a new job.
Three kinds of funny squishies: gross, startling and goofy
Sorting a funny stress ball by the kind of reaction it gets is more useful than sorting it by animal or color. Here is how the gag toys in our shop fall, with prices on September 30, 2026:
| Kind of laugh | What happens when you squeeze | Examples | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gross | a yolk blob comes out of the mouth | Vomiting Egg Squishy | $17.99 |
| Gross | a long red tongue lolls out, then springs back | Puking Tongue Frog, 2 pack | $19.99 |
| Gross | nothing comes out; the joke is the shape | Googly Eye Poop, 3 pack and seven other poop listings | from $12 |
| Startling | the eyes bulge out | Pop-Eye Rabbit, Pop-Eye Rhino | $12 each |
| Startling | a clear bubble of red liquid slides out | Pop-Eye Skull | $12 |
| Goofy | squashes into a silly shape, then rises | Baby Doll Squishy | $17.99 |
| Goofy | a content face that squishes deep | Funny Capybara Squishy | $17.99 |
| Goofy | four goofy faces in one pack | Funny Face Octopus, 4 pack | $29.99 |
Gross gets the biggest reaction and the biggest risk. Startling works best when the other person does the squeezing, so the surprise is theirs. Goofy is the safe middle: it gets a smile from almost anyone and offends no one. If you want the mechanics of the pop-out ones, we covered why the eyes bulge in squeeze toys where the eyes pop out.
Poop squishies range from cute to properly gross
“Poop squishy” is searched more than “funny squishies” itself, about 1,660 times a month in the US against roughly 830. It is also the category with the widest range, and the color does most of the work. We have eight poop listings, and they split like this:
- Cute, not gross: the Pink Glitter Poop is a coiled pink swirl with glitter and a kawaii face. The Jumbo Poop Squishy is clear blue gel with glitter, arms, legs and a sleepy grin. The Mini Poop 9 pack is fingertip-size mochi in yellow, pink and brown. The Mint Green Poop Squishy is a glitter swirl with a smile. These read as kawaii first and poop second.
- Goofy with googly eyes: the Googly Eye Poop 3 pack comes in blue, pink and brown, and the eyes “bug out even more” when squeezed. The Funny Poop 2 pack pairs a grinning emoji poop with a stretchy log.
- Brown, stretchy and meant to gross people out: the Stretchy Poop 2 pack pulls long and knots up, and the Fake Poop 6 pack says outright that “they gross people out”.
A simple rule: pastel or glitter for people you don’t know well, brown for people who will laugh at it, and the six-pack only for someone who will actually use it on others.
Does anything actually come out?
For a gag gift at a desk or a party, this matters more than the design. The answer is different for each one:
- Vomiting egg: the yolk blob is part of the toy. The listing calls the egg soft TPR and “no-mess”, and says it springs back on its own.
- Puking frog: the tongue is part of the rubbery body. It lolls out and slowly goes back in.
- Pop-Eye Skull: the red liquid stays inside a clear bubble that slides out of the eye socket. The listing doesn’t say what the liquid is. For anyone who chews on toys, pick one of the solid gags instead.
- Everything else in the table: nothing leaves the toy. The eyes pop and the shapes squash, and that’s it.
Who a gag squishy suits, and who it doesn’t
- Office gift swap: go goofy or cute. The capybara, the octopus pack or a glitter poop gets the laugh without making HR part of the story.
- A friend who loves gross-out humor: the vomiting egg or the stretchy brown poops. The egg has the advantage of a reveal: it looks like a plain cartoon egg until someone squeezes it.
- Kids: check the listing. The vomiting egg, the puking frog, the baby doll and the octopus pack each state kids 3+ and adults. Of our poop listings, only the Mint Green Poop Squishy states an age (3+), so read the product page before buying one of the others for a young child.
- Party bags: the Mini Poop 9 pack works out to about $1.55 a piece.
- Skip the gag entirely when the person is grieving, stressed about something real, or simply doesn’t like being the joke. A plain, soft squishy is a kinder gift then. Our stress ball vs squishy guide covers the non-joke options.
For more goofy faces without any gross-out, the Capybara Squishy collection has nine capybara squishies.
FAQ
What makes a funny stress ball work as a gag?
Usually one of three things: a gross shape or action (poop, vomit, a lolling tongue), a startle (eyes or a bubble popping out), or a goofy face. The gross ones get the biggest reaction; the goofy ones suit the widest range of people.
Is a poop squishy an appropriate gag gift for a coworker?
It can be, if you pick a cute one. A pink glitter or clear gel poop with a face reads as kawaii. A brown stretchy poop is better kept for friends who you know will laugh.
Are funny squishies messy?
Most aren’t. The vomiting egg’s yolk and the frog’s tongue are part of the toy, not a separate goo. The Pop-Eye Skull is the exception worth knowing: its gag is a bubble of red liquid, and the listing doesn’t name the liquid.
Which funny squishies say they are for kids?
On our shop, the Vomiting Egg Squishy, the Puking Tongue Frog 2 pack, the Baby Doll Squishy, the Funny Face Octopus 4 pack and the Mint Green Poop Squishy each give an age of 3+. Check each product page for others.
